7 Video Marketing Tips for Growing Businesses

Practical ways to plan, produce and distribute video so it brings in enquiries, not just views.

Most businesses now know they should be using video. Fewer know how to make video that actually moves the needle — more enquiries, more walk-ins, more sales. These seven principles come from planning and producing content for brands across very different industries.

1. Start with one objective per video

A video that tries to introduce your company, launch a product and recruit staff will do none of them well. Decide the single action you want a viewer to take — call, visit, book, buy — and build the video around it.

2. Hook in the first two seconds

On social platforms, viewers decide almost instantly whether to keep watching. Open with movement, a striking visual, a question or the payoff itself. Save the logo for the end.

3. Design for silent viewing

Many people watch with sound off, especially on mobile. Use on-screen text and captions so the message lands without audio, and treat sound as a bonus rather than a requirement.

4. Plan content in batches

A single shoot day can produce a month of content when it's planned well. Write a list of videos before the shoot, group them by location and setup, and capture extra b-roll you can reuse.

5. Make one master, many cuts

A two-minute brand film can also become a 30-second ad, three vertical Reels, a website header loop and a LinkedIn post. Plan these versions before filming so the footage supports every format.

6. Show real people and real places

Your team, your workspace and your customers are more persuasive than generic stock footage. Authenticity builds trust — especially for local businesses competing on reputation.

7. Measure what matters

Views are easy to count but rarely the goal. Track enquiries, WhatsApp messages, calls and website conversions from each video, and use that data to decide what to make next.

  • Pick one objective per video
  • Hook immediately and caption everything
  • Batch your production days
  • Plan every platform cut up front
  • Track enquiries, not just views

Video marketing doesn't need to be complicated. It needs a clear goal, a plan, and production good enough that your brand looks as professional on screen as it is in person.
